Engineering Department SummaryThe Aerospace Engineering Department
at SJSU offers an ABET-accredited (BSAE) and a (MSAE) in Aerospace
Engineering. Hands-on, project-based curricula and state-of-the-art
pedagogy prepare our students for professional careers in aerospace
engineering fields, such as aircraft and space systems research,
design, development, testing, and integration. The Department has
approximately 350 undergraduate and 80 graduate students.Students
in the MSAE Program can specialize in sustainable aviation
concepts, aerospace structural design, astrodynamics, space systems
engineering, hypersonics or propulsion. They have opportunities to
work with AE faculty and NASA engineers to design, build, test, and
launch microsatellites like the , participate in the design,
building, and testing of our brand new hypersonic facility, learn
how to use machine/deep learning for structural health monitoring,
optimize spacecraft trajectories or explore the potential of
electric and hybrid propulsion systems for general aviation,
commuter, and large air transports. In addition, students can

is at: Brief Description of DutiesLecturers are expected to teach
their courses using student-centered pedagogies; collaborate with
the Aerospace Engineering Assessment Coordinator to assess course
and program learning outcomes, maintain office hours in accordance
with University Policy, and cooperate with the Department to allow
for regular peer-reviews of their teaching. Lecturers are strongly
encouraged to seek guidance from Department Chair for clarification
of University policies and department practices with respect to
grading, testing, textbooks, office hours, curriculum goals,
disability accommodations, academic integrity, etc.Faculty are
expected to organize their classes using the Canvas Learning
Management System (LMS), the official LMS provided for the SJSU
community. All classes at SJSU, whether online or not, must be
anchored in the Canvas platform to ensure faculty-student
connection in a common space as all students are directed to log in
to Canvas for online access to their classes. You will have access
to this system prior to the semester start date.Candidates must
demonstrate an understanding of the needs of a student population
with great diversity in age, cultural background, ethnicity,
primary language and academic preparation and must be willing to
meet these needs through inclusive course materials, research-based
student-centered pedagogies in and outside the classroom. Required
Qualifications
- A Bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering or closely related
field is required to teach lower division undergraduate
courses.
- A Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering or closely related
field is required to teach upper division undergraduate as well as
graduate courses.
- Knowledge of the subject matter in the area assigned for
teaching demonstrated through relevant professional experience
and/or a Ph.D. or Sc.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering or closely
related field.
- Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic
work.
- Demonstrated awareness of, and sensitivity to the educational
goals of a multicultural population through cross-cultural study,
training, teaching or other comparable experience. Conditional

assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement
between the California State University (CSU) and the California
Faculty Association (CFA). These provisions state the Order of
Work, according to which available courses are assigned to faculty,
