The BD Biosciences segment is focused on continually advancing the science and applications associated with cellular analysis. BDB's Reagent & Assay Development Group focuses on providing differentiated reagent solutions that uncover truths in biology and medicine. Teams of dedicated scientists and engineers are responsible for initiating and driving the reagent and assay development projects and integrating assays and flow cytometry instruments to create the next generation of research and clinical Flow Cytometry platforms. Products include cell analyzers, cell sorters, reagents, assays, and software. We are seeking a candidate who can bring experience of clinical flow cytometry workflows to assist in new assays and reagents development. The candidate will also be part of the team contributing to sustaining projects as well as R&D support of world-wide regulatory product registrations. Job responsibilities may include hands-on laboratory testing and troubleshooting of instrumentation, preparation of biological samples, analysis of flow cytometry data, preparation of documentation supporting findings, or test method development. The candidate will be performing work under the supervision of a manager and/or project lead who will define deliverables, meet with a senior leadership mentor, participate in project team meetings and be responsible for documenting and presenting study results and findings. While this position is being recruited in San Jose, this role will eventually relocate to our new planned facilities in San Diego, which will be close to BDB's existing facilities in the region. As we relocate to our new facilities, we will be making improvements to the way we research, develop, and manufacture our products to drive even greater efficiency and speed in our organization. We anticipate the relocation will take place in mid to late 2023. Primary Responsibilities: Collaborate with team members to design studies, write protocols, conduct analysis, and write reports for assay development, verification, and validation to support clinical and regulated products. Provide R&D support and guidance to ensure that regulatory documentation is accurate and compliant with relevant regulations, guidelines and industry standards. Maintain strong understanding of state-of-the-art science and technology development in the industry. Perform data analysis and reporting of flow cytometry clinical samples across a variety of cytometry assays. Provide technical expertise, leadership and support for flow cytometry operations for assay/result troubleshooting. Plan/participate in the sustaining projects, lead troubleshooting and gap/risk assessment activities. Effectively coordinate with other functional areas associated with the R&D activities, including Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Marketing, Manufacturing, Medical Affairs, Business Development, etc. Provide technical input to regulatory inquiries and/or participate in interactions with regulatory agencies. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in the Biology, Immunology, Biomedical Engineering or related biological science discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Experience in bench-testing and has effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting flow cytometry analyzers and/or sorters, with knowledge of flow cytometry instrument platforms, applications and software, assay panel development and customer workflows. Experience performing statistical analysis and interpreting experimental results. Experience working within a regulated medical device industry with knowledge or experience with regulatory submissions and/or regulatory interactions is desired. Experience in IVD product development is desired Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of leukemia, lymphoma, and/or cancer biology is preferred. Knowledge of clinical and/or research laboratory environment and quality control procedures is preferred. Understanding and familiarity with IVD industry guidelines (FDA, CLSI, etc.) is preferred. Knowledge of design of experimental procedures and literature search for targeted information. Knowledge of flow cytometry instruments and applications. Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret and summarize scientific results in clear, concise, and accurate manner. Strong learning agility. Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and ability to work with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational skills to meet project deadlines and support multiple ongoing projects. Ability to train bench-level personnel at multiple levels of education and/or expertise. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with others in a multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrated success leading projects, with the ability to meet technical objectives and solve challenges under conditions of ambiguity and rapid change.
