Job Summary:
Regional Medical Center of San Jose (RMCSJ) is looking for a
Designated Institutional Official (DIO) to partner with the
facility to help build the foundation for Graduate Medical
Education (GME). RMCSJ will lead the development of residency
programs in the Bay area to help with the growing shortage of
medical providers. They will be critical in the hiring of residency
program directors. They will provide leadership and organize
resources to enable the hospital as a GME-sponsoring institution to
achieve substantial compliance with ACGME Institutional
Requirements and thereby maintaining ACGME Accreditation
The ideal candidate will be a medical provider that is board
certified in their specialty, preferably local to the Bay Area (but
open to candidates nationally) and have prior GME faculty teaching
experience. An additional preference would go to those interested
in residency program director roles as well, but not required.
Specialties of interest are broad and open to discussion.
Requirements, Roles and Responsibilities:
--- 8-16 hours a week (20-40% FTE) with remainder in clinical
and/or a blend program director or faculty teaching
--- Work collaboratively with the Hospital and its affiliate GME
teams to implement and administer the GME programs;
--- Provide leadership and organize resources to enable Hospital as
a GME-sponsoring institution, to achieve substantial compliance
with ACGME Institutional Requirements, thereby maintaining ACGME
Accreditation;
--- Ensure the annual review and approval of a statement of
institutional committee to GME that specifies, at a minimum, a
commitment to providing necessary educational, financial and human
resources;
--- Serve as liaison with GME affiliates, develop and maintain all
affiliation agreements with other institutions that provide
training to Hospital residents/fellows;
--- Contribute, as requested, to division strategic plan
development, as well as succession planning;
--- Prepare an annual report of GME activities in accordance with
ACGME requirements pertinent to content and present to hospital,
division and corporate leadership;
--- Develop all policies, protocols and guidelines necessary for
the administration and conduct of GME at the institutional and
program levels;
--- Oversee the management and job performance evaluation of all
personnel in the Department of Graduate Medical Education's table
of organization;
--- Provide leadership and strategic partnership with Hospital for
faculty recruitment/sourcing efforts, training and development, as
well as succession planning;
--- Assist, provide guidance and support for GME/Hospital
agreements/contracts process;
--- Recruit and provide necessary support for professional
educators, information specialists and operations personnel
necessary for the educational and administrative conduct of the
Department of Graduate Medical Education;
--- Develop educational programs at the institutional level for
implementation across all GME programs;
--- Oversee preparation of the Institutional Review Documents (IRD)
and all other elements required for the periodic reaccreditation of
the institution by the ACGME;
--- Conduct regular annual institutional reviews in accordance with
all ACGME requirements and institutional protocols;
--- Review all Program documents prepared for Residency Review
Committee (RRC) site visits;
--- Oversee and maintain all necessary records, documents and
databases for programs, residents, fellows and the institution
necessary for regulatory and accrediting purposes and for GME
reimbursement as mandated by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid
Services (CMS);
--- Plan, develop, conduct (in conjunction with Program
Coordinators) all activities of the orientation process for all
program faculty (program director), residents and fellows;
--- Provide guidance and direction for the regular assessment of
quality of the GME Programs;
--- Assure that all programs have current, required program letters
of agreement with other Institutions' programs that provide
training to GME residents/fellows;
--- Provide critical leadership and guidance in the review and
development of process and procedure;
--- Plan, organize and meet monthly with all program directors and
coordinators.
