Job Description:

Job Title & Description: Our City Forest is looking for an Community Nursery Program Assistant that is interested in gaining experience in tree care in the nonprofit and municipal sector. The Nursery Assistant will work with our team of Nursery Manager to ensure the successful operations of our community nursery. They will be trained on basic tree care, species identification, pest management, customer service, databasing, and general operation of a native nursery. OCF office headquarters is located at 646 N. King Rd in San Jos--.

Organization Overview : Our City Forest (OCF) is an urban forestry nonprofit serving communities throughout Santa Clara County. OCF provides a range of community services such as resources and assistance, tree care, educational materials, volunteer training, and green jobs training. OCF also operates a full-scale cultivation nursery, a lawn conversion program and is developing an urban forest education center within a major park. Employees at OCF enjoy working with people, are enthusiastic about community involvement, and have a strong environmental stewardship ethic.

Key Responsibilities of Community Nursery Program Assistant:
Native California shrub care and propagation
Basic tree care and maintenance
Assist with Open Hours, answering questions for and assisting community
Conduct presentations and workshops to community groups regarding OCF services and educational topics
Promote, encourage and help ensure the engagement of volunteers in all projects
Assist in maintaining compliance with safety and other pertinent agency policies

Required Qualifications:
Previous nursery experience
Strong desire to work with volunteers and community partners on a grassroots level
Strong written and oral communication skills
Some experience coaching or managing employees, interns or volunteers
Training and/or experience in tree/shrub identification, propagation and growth
U.S. Citizen or legal resident, with a high school diploma or equivalent, minimum age: 18
Must be available to work Tu-Sat 7:30am-4pm
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds (approx. weight of 15-gallon tree)

Desired Qualifications:
--- Bilingual in English & Spanish
--- ISA Certified Arborist
--- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Filemaker Pro, software in Mac operating systems

Pay : Negotiable based on experience

Start Date: Opening is immediate; applications taken until position is filled
