Overview

Compass Transportation is part of Transdev North America, the largest private-sector provider of multiple modes of transportation in North America. Compass has been the leading provider of corporate-sponsored employee commuter shuttle services in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1976, with clients including several of the Bay Area's top Fortune 500 companies.

We are now recruiting an Account Manager for one of our larger contracts, a leading technology company located in the South Bay Area.

The Transportation Account Manager controls the daily operation of assigned transportation contract(s), in compliance with the policies of the contracting agency and in conformance with Company procedures.

The Transportation Account Manager holds overall responsibility for system performance in all functions of operation, including supervision of dispatchers, lead drivers/trainers, clerks, drivers and contract administration. When necessary and applicable, the Transportation Account Manager will also coordinate with personnel administration, Safety and Training and Payroll/Accounting.

The Transportation Account Manager also acts as a company liaison to passengers, clients and community members. The Transportation Account Manager is primarily responsible for on-time operating performance, ridership and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities including, but not limited to:
  • Ensure client satisfaction.

  • Enforces policies and procedures of contract with all assigned personnel.

  • Maintains Compass Transportation's service standard and policy.

  • Ensures the account is properly staffed.

  • Ensures efficient communication between Operations and Dispatch.

  • Maintains communication between General Manager and Operations when applicable and necessary.

  • Conducts counseling of personnel and documents action taken.

  • Ensures all re-occurring operator training.

  • Create weekly driver and staff schedule.

  • Perform administrative functions as needed.

  • Develop invoice and submit to Accounting for processing.

  • Assist in preparation and submission of weekly payroll.

  • Performs any and all other projects as assigned by the General Manager or client.

  • Provide appropriate coaching and direction to ensure the ongoing development and high performance of individual on this team.

Operational Excellence tools and communication mechanisms should be fully leveraged to bring about important improvements to operational activities and business processes. Ensure appropriate senior leadership support for resourcing and rewarding CPI initiatives. Explore innovative technologies for improving how work is performed (efficiency, quality, safety).

  • Develop a culture of engrained quality. Ensure the highest levels of quality exist in all services and materials provided to customer groups. Ensure all operations, facilities, equipment, and business processes comply with appropriate safety regulations and procedures. Develop appropriate workflows, business processes and procedures where gaps in quality or compliance exist.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, LICENSING, AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum three (3) years of operations experience in a fixed route operation, or airport shuttle service of similar size and scope

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Thorough knowledge of basic provincial laws, ordinances and regulations underlying the transit operation

  • Thorough knowledge of the methods of operation of the transit system's staff and operational departments

  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and relevant database programs

  • Working knowledge of TripSpark, GNE Badge Reader, gRide , Trillium Transit GFTS, Tripshot, ELD

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to details

  • Ability to work effectively with labor; may include labor grievances and negotiations

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays

  • Prior experience as an account manager supervising a client/vendor account within the private transportation industry

  • Routing and dispatch

  • Customer service

  • Dispatch radio communications

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Oral presentation skills

  • Negotiation and persuasion skills

Travel requirement (as a percent): <15% travel for occasional meetings

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must submit to drug testing and a criminal background check

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.

  • Must be able to work at different sites at a moment's notice and/or at scheduled intervals

  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear.

  • Frequently required to sit. Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; and smell. Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Up to 30% of the workday is spent outdoors monitoring service on routes, transit facilities, and company locations.

  • Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold and in a damp environment with moderate noise.

  • Remaining work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer; time is spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer.
