Director of Emergency Services - San Jose, CA

Position Summary:

The Director of Emergency Services Department assures service, growth, development, personnel management, and resource allocation and management controls in order to ensure consistent high-quality patient care in the Emergency Department.

Minimum Education

BSN - REQUIRED

Minimum Work Experience

3+ years of experience in emergency services REQUIRED

3+ years of experience in a leadership REQUIRED

 MUST have RECENT acute care experience

MUST have LARGE ED Experience

Experience Notes:

• Good ED and leadership experience 
• High volume, high acuity experience
• Does not want to first time Director
• A Team builder 
• Boots on the ground - willing to assist where needed - come in on the weekends if needed
• Showing the staff that they matter and they are there to support them 
• Union Environment – push patients to the floor if needed 
• Servant leader 
• Having Union Experience – very important – would like to have some Union experience

Required Licenses/Certifications

• Current CA RN license required
• BLS/ACLS - REQUIRED
• PALS - REQUIRED 
• ENPC-REQUIRED

Scope Summary:

• Gary P, COO – over ER x 2 months. 
• 350 bed hospital – great Payer Mix 
• In the process of a cultural change – 20-30% in patient experience 
• Comp Stroke and Stemi Center 
• Psych receiving center 
• Inpatient Peds Department (PICU and NICU) 
• Full Service
• No Trauma – Regional offers trauma 
• Need a leader who can support the staff 
• Care experience is vitally important 
• Currently at 120 ppd; pre-covid = 170
• Lost 2/3 of staff, travelers, and staff reduction due to covid.  Has hired 10 and have 11 travelers; recruiting 3-4 more.
• Throughput oversight – Volume still down 23%  EMS down 12%; ALOS-D 180 min, nov = 157; Dec 159
• ALSO-A = 47min
• ALOS from 300-400 to 292 in Oct; Nov 340 due to HOLDs; Now at 390 with covid
• Imaging – 115 – 120 min CT.  Now 95
• XR TAT – 80 min; now 67
• Good engagement with ED medical Group (En
• #1 or #2 in Div on metrics
• Patient Experience – 70% - rounding

Salary:  $175,600 - $219,000 (Midpoint)  - Salary is based on experience

Bonus: Upto 15% of base salary - Based on Performance
