Your contribution will make the world healthier, cleaner and safer.What are we looking for?Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is looking for a Staff Electrical Engineer with a high degree of manufacturing knowledge, experience with capital equipment design, and skills in supplier development to support division level activities in the R&D Engineering Center of Excellence. Successful candidates will work closely with R&D teams in all business units as well as division level functions to drive strategic value engineering projects for existing and future products.What will you do?The Staff Electrical Engineer drives the implementation and execution of the technical aspects of strategic sourcing projects and initiatives. Works closely with the R&D product design teams, supply base, manufacturing engineering and quality functions to align capabilities with technical requirements. Collaborates globally with category, operations and R&D leaders.The successful candidate will work closely with R&D teams to identify opportunities to remove cost from electrical assemblies and complex electro/mechanical designs. Once opportunities are identified, this role will oversee the technical development of the design and partner with the sourcing team to develop qualified suppliers. In addition, this role will lead value engineering initiatives to drive bestin-class supplier cost improvement for the group/enterprise.Key Duties andResponsibilitiesProvide product technical expertise and support to suppliersOptimize the assembly process and BoM structures to support and outsourcing to Low Cost Regions in a Lean Manufacturing environment.Work with larger teams Globally (Mechanical & Electrical engineering teams, manufacturing / Industrial engineering) to gain insight to cost opportunities which may be applied to customer products / rationalize existing opportunities by coordinating cost / time save informationPerform design-of-experiment (DOE) for packing method optimizationKnowledge and ability to perform minor design work such as manufacturability design work, redesign of designs not affecting spec or design intentLead continuous improvement initiatives focused on material cost reduction, capacity enhancement, and streamlining of the supply chain.Perform robust root cause analysis of production issues, implement appropriate containment, and drive corrective action on electronic sub-modulesPerform analytical analysis to support development effortsWrite and maintain work instructions and Device History RecordsHow will you get here?B.S. degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related engineering field5+ years of experience in product design and 3 years in manufacturing in a formal product lifecycle from concept through production release5+ experience in circuit design and debuggingExperience in low volume, high-value large complex systems such as scientific instrumentation, medical devices, or semiconductor process systems is highly preferredExperience with latest PCB layout, assembly and manufacturing techniques including material selection and SMTAble to independently execute design verification based on circuit specificationsWork with component vendors to bring in-house latest advancements in electronicsHands-on use and knowledge of design and testing tools such as OrCAD, PSpice, Allegro, & DMMsExperience in troubleshooting electronic circuits and conduct root cause analysis on PCBAsExperience working in teams with multidisciplinary and diverse backgroundsExperience generating engineering specifications from marketing requirementsExperience with product validation testing to confirm specifications and product performanceKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesExperience with DFMEA and should cost analysis preferredExperience interacting with suppliers to ensure product conformance, cost effectiveness and outsourcing initiativesMust have drive, enthusiasm and strong practical engineering experience & technical ability to coordinate Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) AnalysisKnowledge of RoHS requirements, CE and product safety regulatory standardsFamiliarity with Quality Management Systems such ISO9001 standards a plusExcellent communication, analytical and organizational skill to manage projects and lead a cross functional teamExcellent time management skills and ability to prioritize projects and process multiple tasksExperience in working prototype testing (electro-mechanical hardware parts & assemblies), Product structuring, documentation, critical assemblies/test metricsAbility to understand and solve complex design challenges both independently and as part of a design team.Able to communicate clearly both in oral and presentation.High attention to detail and organizational skills.Document design changes by writing and reviewing Engineering Change Order.Experience with DFx - Design for Assembly, Manufacturability, Service, and CostJobSummaryJob number: 148905BRDate posted : 2021-02-25Profession: EngineeringEmployment type: Full-TimeSDL2017
