Job Description:

As a Technical Writer in the Genetic Science division of Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will collaborate with various teams to produce high-quality user documentation for microarray assays and instrumentation. All projects follow our internal quality management system, using a variety of tools to create, revise, and review product user documentation, and support translation initiatives. You will collaborate with other team members to discuss, plan and execute documentation-specific projects to support a variety of organizational initiatives. Technical Writers at Thermo Fisher Scientific can expect:Dynamic work environmentCompetitive salary and benefits packagesOpportunities for professional development and growthWhat will you do?Research and write complex assay documentation for microarray products.Create new and update existing documentation to explain complex workflows, instrument use, installation, and maintenance procedures.Collaborate with scientists, engineering and product evaluation teams, project and product managers in a scientific environment.Contribute to the development and implementation of documentation standards.Peer review user documentation.Create topic-based information that is scalable and reusable.Author in XML DITA applying technical writing best practices.Set up product manuals in content management tool.Handle product manual reviews and approvals.Handle multiple projects simultaneously.Deliver under tight deadlines.Follow all processes, style guides, templates, and brand guidelines.May involve working within a document control system.How will you get here?Education/ ExperienceDegree in technical communication, chemistry, bio-chemistry or related field with an emphasis on technical documentation or equivalent years of relevant experience. Advanced degree a plus.Experience as a bench scientist preferred.Experience with analytical instruments will be considered an advantage.Familiarity with FrameMaker, Oxygen or XMetal, and topic-based writing.Knowledge of Darwin Information Type Architecture (DITA), content analysis, metadata/taxonomy structuring preferred.Experience with screen-capture software, Acrobat, and XML.Flexible and proactive with the ability to work in an environment of constant change.You must be able to collaborate with scientists, fellow writers, project and program managers.Strong communication skills.Must be highly organized, detail oriented, and have a high regard for quality.Thermo Fisher Scientific is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
