Job Description:
THE POSITION Under direct supervision of the Program
Coordinator, the Substance Use Intervention Specialist will perform
individual and group intervention for adolescents with alcohol and
other drug (AOD) abuse problems. This City of Fremont Youth and
Family Services position is supported by a grant from Alameda
County Behavioral Health Care Services. This is a temporary, 40
hours per week assignment, anticipated to last for 3 years.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Intervene with adolescents from diverse
backgrounds in individual or group sessions to assist them in
dealing with substance and alcohol abuse problems and promote
drug-free life. Interview adolescents and family members, review
records, conduct assessments, or confer with other professionals to
evaluate adolescents. Collaborate with counselors, families, school
officials, police, case managers, probation officers to plan or
coordinate treatment, drawing on substance use intervention
approaches and adolescents needs. Establish a substance use
disorder diagnosis and service goals; develop and write up
treatment plans that are responsive to the familys values and
strengths as well as adolescent clients needs, in compliance with
Drug MediCal documentation requirements. Monitor, evaluate, and
record adolescents progresses with respect to treatment goals.
Assist adolescents in adhering to treatment plans, such as setting
up appointments, or providing support. Communicate with family
members from diverse backgrounds to assist them in understanding,
dealing with, or supporting the adolescents to reduce alcohol and
substance use and lead a drug-free life. Educate adolescents,
families or community members about substance abuse and link them
to available community resources. Increase knowledge of adolescent
substance use interventions and service standards by reviewing
current literature, conducting social research, attending seminars,
training workshops, or classes. Other duties as assigned by the
Program Coordinator. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THIS JOB WILL
TYPICALLY HAVE: The Human Services Department is searching for
motivated and skillful candidates who can exercise sound judgment
independently throughout their daily course of responsibilities and
can work effectively with adolescents and their families in dealing
with alcohol and other drug problems. The successful candidate
would have strong social perceptiveness, excellent interpersonal
and communication skills with people from a variety of backgrounds,
and compassionate towards adolescents and their families regardless
of the circumstances they are in. Ability to establish rapport with
teens from diverse background is required, as is the ability to
engage with parents, families, and other significant persons to
support adolescents make choices to lead a drug-free life. REQUIRED
A Masters degree, in process of gaining a Masters degree in
Counseling or related field, and/or possession of California State
Alcohol and Drug Counselor Certification (CAADAC CAAR) is required.
Minimally qualified candidates must be registered through CCAPP and
progressing toward certification. Individuals with any combination
of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge,
skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance
would be qualified to apply. A typical way to obtain the required
knowledge and skills would be a Bachelors degree in psychology,
social work, human development, or related field and at least two
years experience providing interventions to adolescents and
families dealing with substance abuse problems. This position
requires the ability to travel independently within and outside of
the City limits, and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs as
well as several electronic information systems used for clinical
records and time reporting. HIGHLY DESIRED Individuals with
Bi-lingual Spanish or Chinese/Mandarin language skills COMPENSATION
& BENEFITS The hourly rate for this position is $25-$35 per hour,
depending on qualifications. The City of Fremont is in compliance
with the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This temporary assignment may
become eligible for a medical benefits contribution based on the
average number of hours worked. City contributions vary based on
