Job Description:

The Principal Software Engineer will be responsible for translating the clinical and user needs into software design requirements for a highly respected surgical robotics innovator located south of San Jose, CA. This person will establish practical design architectures and implement those designs into testable prototypes. As our client is an innovator in the development of advanced surgical robotics systems, previous experience with integrating software solutions into complex electromechanical systems is required.Responsibilities

• Develop real time and/or non-real time software, creating features and infrastructure that supports safe and effective procedures
• Manage a team of 3-5 software developers and engineers (including both consultants and employees) through the end to end process to a successful design verification
• Develop practical control algorithms and software designs that take high level user commands in user/image space and translate them using device models and sensor inputs that precisely deliver the requested motion
• Participation in building and testing prototypes, and support in their pre-clinical lab use
• Determine software development timelines, collaborate on overall program timelines, and lead a team in executing to those timelines
• Help build a new robust and high-performance department in addition to building a world class product
• Document and communicate your work through design reviews and as appropriate released documents as part of the product development process Qualifications/Experience
  • BS, MS or PhD in a software-related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 15+ years of relevant medical device industry experience, including managing/ supervising teams
  • Leading a SW team from software requirements definition through design verification, following an IEC 62304 compliant life cycle process or similar processes for an equivalent safety critical system
  • C++ and Python programming skills, following software development best practices (unit testing, code review, etc.)
  • Software architecture for medical safety with associated formal documentation
  • Comfortable working with high levels of ambiguity and the ability to convert that into tangible outcomes
  • Experience with designing, testing, and shipping software for medical device capital equipment or similar safety critical systems
