Reporting to the CTO of Lumentum, the individual in this role is expected to engage directly with Lumentum technology experts, respective PLMs, customers, end users and suppliers to identify emerging and probable applications, technology directions, promising product concepts and potential gaps in Lumentum internal technologies. The individual filling this role is required to have extensive industry experience in telecom transceivers as well as telecom and enterprise optical networking applications. In addition, a significant technical familiarity with transmission components, their underlying core technologies, and packaging principles is strongly desired. This individual must work very effectively with others as a key portion of this role will be drawing upon, working with and stimulating the engagement of both internal and external experts to organize, define and refine Lumentum's product and technology strategies. This person will also be expected to support marketing and sales efforts through technical discussions on existing and planned products and therefore must be an effective communicator, proficient within a dynamic conversation, and comfortable with public presentations. Description and Responsibilities

• Proactively drive internal and external technical discussions to support PLM and R&D's creation of near and long term telecom transmission product roadmaps and supporting technology development strategies to full fill those roadmaps
• Understand respective markets and applications as well as technology trends and timelines, communicate this to PLM and R&D, and lead internal discussion of strategic product solutions
• Participate in and stimulate the definition of new products, including providing feature requirements and performance specifications guidance
• Support product marketing and sales efforts with technical guidance and customer discussions
• Stimulate R&D leaders in identifying and defining opportunities or need for technology investment
• Represent Lumentum transmission technology and strategy to customers and with external speaking opportunities
• Understand competitors' offerings and respective technical positioningDesired Experience
  • Experience with telecommunications and datacenter interconnect transmission applications and networks
  • Proven track record of developing new ideas and organizing optical transmission technology and product strategies
  • Experience in optical link design and engineering including propagation impairments and mitigation
  • Transmission component-level technology understanding and familiarity (preferably including InP, GaAs, SiP, VCSELs, CMOS, SiGe, other)
  • General familiarity with fab level processes and component packaging technologies and processesDesired Skills
    • Ability to work independently and proactively to define productive goals, and develop and execute a plan to obtain those goals
    • Be comfortable working within ambiguous situations, be able to identify and extract meaningful information and relationships, and possess an ability to develop meaningful and direction setting perspectives
