Associate Specialist, Step I-II " Microbiology, Immunology " Molecular and Cell Biology The Portnoy lab in the department of Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley seeks an Associate Specialist. The goals of the Portnoy lab are to research the molecular basis of microbial pathogenesis. We are looking for a motivated Associate Specialist with enthusiasm and necessary skills to tackle these problems using multidisciplinary approaches combining expertise in microbiology, immunology, cell biology, and mouse genetics. Responsibilities: Independent research on the plasma membrane protein trafficking and degradation inside eukaryotic cells. Generate and analyze gene edited cell line and mice using CRISPR/Cas9. Tissue culture and molecular biology, including preparation of samples for RNAseq and flow cytometry Evaluate the humoral and cellular immune responses after infection or vaccination Supervision of undergraduate researchers Minimum/Basic Qualifications Required (By the time of application): Bachelors degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, or related. Additional Qualifications Required (by start date): The successful candidate will have at least five years of post graduate laboratory/research employment. Candidate must have expertise with analysis of inflammasome biology, including analysis of cytokines and eicosanoids, intestinal epithelial cells, generation of cell line/ mice using CRISPR/Cas9, cell culture, flow cytometry, mouse husbandry and genetics, infectious disease mouse models. Preferred Qualifications (by start date): Ph.D (or equivalent degree) in Molecular & Cell Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, or related. Excellent communication skills and careful attention to details. Appointment: This position reports to Dr. Daniel Portnoy. The initial appointment is for eight months. The approximate start date of this position will be November 1, 2017. Salary: $54,744 - $58,548 at 100% time, depending on qualifications. This position provides full benefits.
