Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Perioperative - Pre & Post Surgery (PACU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Strong IV skills Description: The unit provides care for both inpatient and outpatient surgical patients. There are 16 beds available in the unit. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1:1 for fresh post-operative patients, and 1:2 for the next phase. Preoperative ratios are 1:5, and post-recovery ratios are 1:4 when holding. A charge nurse is available on the unit. Nurse aides are not utilized in this setting. Weekend requirement is one weekend per month. Holidays are covered on-call. Staff may be required to take one weekday call as well as one weekend call per month. Shifts are 12 hours with staggered start times ranging from 6 AM to 10:30 AM. There is a potential to float to endoscopy and outpatient surgery centers. The orientation duration is one week, but may vary based on experience. Common diagnoses include robotic and regular laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, hysterectomy, spine cases, and total joint surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders). Cardiac catheterizations are also performed, but there are currently limited services for eye or ENT cases and no open cardiac surgeries. Outpatient blood transfusions and infusions are conducted in the PACU. The charting system used is Cerner. This position does not require a BSN. The role is set in an acute care setting. Care will be provided in a challenging and rewarding environment.
