Job Description:

What You'll Do

The Director of Executive Communications is a key leadership role responsible for developing and executing communication strategies that enhance the reputation, visibility, and messaging of the EVP, Chief Customer and Partner Officer, as well as the Global Sales Organization overall.

This position requires a strategic thinker with exceptional writing, storytelling, and interpersonal skills, capable of translating complex ideas into compelling narratives. The Director of Executive Communications collaborates closely with senior executives and cross functional partners to ensure that our messaging is clear, compelling, consistent, and cascading down to the right audiences. As a key leader in Global Sales communications and the extended community of ELT excomms, this role will have the chance to be one of the key authors of our transformation story.

You'll bring your strong writing, content strategy skills, and help us continue to evolve our narrative, both for your Executive and for the function overall. You'll bring your extensive change management experience and help us build our strategic and communications roadmap, including where your Executive should show up, why, and when. You'll bring your analytical skills and industry knowledge and help us evolve our measurement and metrics. You'll bring your experience managing an end-to-end program for a senior executive and help us evolve, challenge, and improve our back-end processes. You'll bring your sense of humor, your leadership, and your easy-going presence to our great and growing team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute executive communication strategies: Create a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with the company's objectives and the executive's vision. This includes defining key messages, target audience, and appropriate channels for communication.
  • Craft compelling executive communication content: Create high-quality written materials, including speeches, presentations, talking points, and articles, that effectively communicate the executive's vision, initiatives, and key messages. Ensure content is engaging, concise, and aligned with the company's brand and communication guidelines.
  • Provide strategic counsel on effective communication techniques and best practices: Partner closely with the EVP to shape their communication style, develop key messages, and prepare for important internal and external engagements.
  • Drive internal executive communication: Develop and implement internal communication plans to ensure the EVP effectively engages and inspires the employees. This includes creating regular updates, newsletters, and town hall meetings to cultivate transparency and alignment.
  • Monitor and analyze communication effectiveness: Regularly measure and evaluate the impact of executive communication initiatives. Use data and feedback to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes to optimize communication effectiveness.
  • Build and manage relationships: Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders, including executives, senior leaders, and cross-functional partners to capture insights, collaborate on communication initiatives, and ensure alignment with company goals.

    Who You'll Work With

As part of the Sales Communications Leadership team, and a key member of the ELT excomm community, you will work closely with our Global Communications partners, the Americas communications team, our Sales teams, as well as other partners across the company. The Sales Communications Leadership team is focused, fast-paced, adaptable, and always looking for fun and creative ideas. We use data and storytelling to communicate our company vision and strategy to internal and external audiences.

    Who You Are

You are a writer and storyteller at heart and are curious about what is happening in the technology industry and around the world. You have experience in building strong relationships with a highly matrixed group of stakeholders. You demonstrate an excellent understanding and thinking across multiple communications disciplines, as well as a strong knowledge of the business and broader global affairs. You have experience advising/working directly with senior executives, are a strong collaborator, and can partner globally across a mix of constituents and organizations. You bring an innovative approach that is digital savvy. You are a self-starter who's not afraid to challenge the status quo or address the "tough questions."

    Minimum Education and Experience Required:
    • 12+ years of related experience and a bachelor's degree in communications, business administration, or related field
    • 7+ years internal/external communications in a variety of areas such as organizational communications, executive communications, and public relations
    • Ability to travel (10 - 20%) (domestic and international)

      Why Cisco

#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference powering an inclusive future for all.

We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we're "old" (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but we're also a software company. And a security company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do - you can't put us in a box!

But "Digital Transformation" is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)

Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.

So, you have colorful hair? Don't care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That's cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us!

When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Applicants may not be eligible for the full salary range based on their U.S. or Canada hiring location. The recruiter can share more details about compensation for the role in your location during the hiring process.

U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. Employees accrue up to 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) each year and have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues without tapping into their PTO. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community. Employees are also able to purchase company stock through our Employee Stock Purchase Program.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco pays at the standard rate of 1% of incentive target for each 1% revenue attainment against the quota up to 100%. Once performance exceeds 100% quota attainment, incentive rates may increase up to five times the standard rate with no cap on incentive compensation. For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
