We are seeking a creative explorer and leader to join our Business Development team as an Associate Director for the AARP Medicare Supplement Insurance product sold through the field insurance agent and eAlliance exchange Distribution Channel. This role would be responsible for leading strategic development of new business opportunities to existing and new customers through the creation of new modes of selling, new channels, and new market development.

This role reports into Insurance Solutions, which provides AARP Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans to AARP members. The company is part of UnitedHealthcare Medicare and Retirement, a segment of the UnitedHealth Group businesses dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Americans ages 50 and older.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall direction on which opportunities to pursue based on customer feedback and analytics/forecasting
  • Manage one person on the business development team
  • Articulate emerging trends in the market and advocate for innovative approaches to meeting customer needs with appliable stakeholders
  • Identify creative solutions to meeting customer needs in ways that maximize customer value and meet business objectives
  • Analyze data to drive identification and pursuit of specific opportunities
  • Develop and prioritize action plans by collaborating with a variety of stakeholders
  • Host brainstorming sessions with different groups inside and outside the organization to identify solutions
  • Align business development, sales, marketing and operations on the impact of a new idea/opportunity; encourage innovative growth mindset with team members
  • Develop/Manage/Maintain Internal and External Partnerships
  • Support compensation strategies by identifying market opportunities and compliant activities to increase overall smart sales growth

    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
    • 7+ years of sales or marketing experience within a matrix organization
    • 5+ years of experience developing and leading a team
    • Experience presenting opportunities and strategies to clients internally or externally
    • Experience resolving complex customer issues
    • Experience working in partnership with finance
    • Experience developing, managing, and maintaining internal and external partnerships
    • Proven ability to analyze market trends and develop market strategies to satisfy customer needs and grow revenue opportunities
    • Willingness to travel as required, up to 10%

      Preferred Qualifications:
      • Current life and health insurance license
      • Experience using influencing, collaboration and listening skills
      • Knowledge of emerging technologies
      • Working knowledge of Medicare

        California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $101,200 to $184,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
