Responsibilities We are seeking an experienced Engineer to join our Energy Systems and e-Mobility team This person must be: Experience working with embedded systems. Must be able to read and understand schematics, and analyze analog and digital electronic circuits. Experience working with embedded firmware. Should have, at a minimum, experience in the "C" language and assembly language. Some work experience either on the design side or the software certification side would be helpful. (A candidate with the right skills directly out of college will also be considered, assuming relevant related coursework.) Excellent communication skills. This is pretty much a given for any engineering position at UL, but in particular it's very important for a functional/software safety engineer. This includes having good writing skills as many people's eyes will be on our communications and reports. Exceptional project handling/multitasking skills - A successful functional/software safety engineer at UL will need to track and progress multiple projects simultaneously. You will be dealing with our external customers whom are dependent on us, but also internal customers (other UL Engineers) as well. Experience with functional safety or software safety standards is a huge bonus. Past experience with, or even some familiarity with standards like UL 991, UL 1998, UL 60730-1, IEC 61508, or similar would be helpful. Qualifications University Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited program plus experience analyzing electrical schematics Detailed knowledge to analyze analog and digital electronic circuits with an understanding of how it interrelates with embedded systems and firmware. The position requires knowledge and proficiency in computer programming, including C and assembly languages. Experience with functional safety evaluations/requirements would be helpful but not absolutely necessary.
