SANTA CLARA COUNTYSan Jose, CA Clinical Educational Specialist Exempt JOB SUMMARY: Under general direction, oversees Clinical and Education Services activities for the local service area. Represents GMR to local committees, medical and training institutions, and other related agencies. Responsible for the creation, implementation, and tracking of education programs. Participates in Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) data collection and analysis. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

  • Assist in recruitment through involvement in area EMS classes and career days.
  • Assist in the development of an orientation program and a system of continuing education.
  • Actively participate in and/or develop a process for the evaluation and/or selection of equipment.
  • Develop education process to include course objectives, examinations and manuals for use as lesson plans.
  • Conduct orientation classes, certification classes to include ACLS/PALS/CPR/EMT Skills. Instructor certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Work with local physician advisory groups.
  • Participate in clinical aspects of problem resolution.
  • Oversee any clinical requirements related to contracts, agreements, etc.
  • Track and review events in response to complaints and/or compliments relating to medical performance.
  • Conduct clinical quality assurance investigations immediately upon receiving information regarding a possible protocol or standard of care violation. In most cases, investigation should be completed within 72 hours of initial report. Document findings in writing. Provide timely briefings to the Regional Director and Medical Director on incidents and investigations, as appropriate.
  • Identify, develop, and implement quality improvement (QI) programs. In order to assure clinical excellence, programs should include, but are not limited to, proactive and retrospective elements of QI concerning clinical call reviews, chart reviews, and trend analysis for both individual and group clinical performance. Such programs should drive the continuing education (CE) process and related coursed offered to field personnel.
  • Represent GMR with local EMS education programs and assure integration with internship and preceptor needs.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for field and management personnel.
  • Assist in the creation/revision of medical policy.
  • Oversee clinical aspects of field performance.
  • Represent the Manager of Clinical and Education Services.
  • Conduct clinical call reviews and investigations.
  • Schedule continuing education programs pertinent to field education needs.
  • Work with other CES Coordinators to assure standardization of CES programs throughout the service areas.
  • Reviews completed patient care reports for accuracy.
  • Design, implement, and review utilization management plans.
  • Provide clinical support for documentation and billing personnel.
  • Assist in planning and monitoring managed care utilization review.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Adherence to and compliance with information systems security is everyone's responsibility.   • Perform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years' experience in the direct delivery of pre-hospital care.
    • Minimum 1 year experience as a Field Training Officer Education:
    • High School diploma or equivalent Skills:
    • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Basic Microsoft knowledge
    • Must hold an active Paramedic license
    • Must have or obtain within 6-months of appointment:
      • Advanced certifications: CCT-P or FP-C
      • BLS Instructor
      • ACLS Instructor
      • PALS InstructorWORKING CONDITIONS AND MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Physical Demands:This position requires mostly field work staffing and riding in an ambulance, involving frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, and moderate squatting, crouching, kneeling, twisting, crawling and climbing, and working in awkward positions when moving patients from all types of locations and within the emergency vehicle. It requires frequent lifting of up to 100 lbs. This position will be required to perform various lifts and transfers of patients who may require the use of one or more of the following items: stretcher or backboard, stair chair, neonate isolet, and possibly a two-person manual transfer. This position will require partnering with another EMT to lift, carry, push, pull, maneuver, balance and transfer from one surface to another a body weight of up to 300lbs, and additional equipment weight. This position requires manual dexterity of frequent simple and power grasping of both hands, moderate use of fine manipulation with both hands, and frequent pushing and pulling and reaching above and below shoulder level. This position also requires frequent use of foot controls when driving the emergency vehicle, utilizing stretchers, or operating other medical equipment with foot controls.Hearing: Must be able to hear and understand information provided by patients, family or bystanders; must be able to hear breath sounds and accurately determine auscultated blood pressures; must be able to differentiate separate conversations in active, distracting environments; must be able to hear and understand radio traffic when responding with lights and sirens.Speech: Must be able to speak and enunciate clearly and at a level audible to others in loud conditions, must be able to speak clearly in stressful situations, must be able to verbally communicate with patients, families and other emergency personnel.Vision: Requires ability to identify and distinguish colors, clear vision at 20 inches or less (close vision) and clear vision at 20 feet or more (distant vision), peripheral and depth vision, as well as ability to adjust focus.Mental Requirements:Must be able to analyze many variables and choose the most effective course of action. Interact with family members, facility personnel, and others. Must be able to handle novel and diverse work problems on a daily basis. Personal maturity and sound judgment are important attributes.* Must be able to relate, communicate and interact with people at all levels within the Company and at customer facilities, as well as with people of diverse backgrounds, age levels ranging from infant to senior, disparate levels of comprehension, and potentially dealing with confused and agitated patients or family members.* Requires ability to analyze, evaluate, compare, and compile information, and the ability to coordinate, communicate, and instruct.
